MJP propulsion

About MJP

Marine Jet Power AB is the world's leading manufacturer of "water jet" propulsion systems for all types of boats and vessels. The MJP water jet propulsion system delivers more boat speed and lower fuel consumption with better control even in shallow water. Propulsion systems meet the most demanding criteria, with improved design and easy maintenance.
MJP water jets are built into:
  • Fast ferries
  • Luxury yachts and megayachts
  • Coast Guard Ships and Naval Agencies
  • special purpose vessels, such as warships
  • MJP water jet propulsion

MJP water jet propulsion systems include seawater inlet tunnel, high pressure impeller pump and steering rotor (rudder) including hydraulic system with electronic remote control.
The MJP design of a water jet propulsion is made exclusively of stainless steel. Such workmanship ensures long-lasting uninterrupted operation in exploitation. The manufacturer provides its customers with complete technical support in the installation of water jet propulsion, hydraulics and electronic control systems. The MJP Group, Österby Marine, has a long and proven experience in applying the leading technological knowledge on ship propulsion and the production of water jet products.

    Features and Benefits:
    • Excellent resistance to cavitation on deplasmian vessels

    • High thrust at low speed
    • Lightweight and compact design with a variety of control system installation options

    • Extraordinary maneuverability. Acceleration capability in a short time, with excellent maneuvering capability and very easy side docking

    • Greater thrust at midrange thrust with improved cruising speed and economy
    • Lower levels of vibration and noise than other propulsion methods

    • Wide range of water jet nozzle

    • Standard rubber bearing shaft or optional composite bearing according to design

The MJP UltraJet has a highly effective nozzle with different intake poles and control capabilities. The wide range of rotor motors corresponds to most marine diesel engines from 100 to 1342 kW (134 - 2172 hp) with the corresponding drive or reduction of the direct transmission ratio. MJP UltraJet drive systems are intended for heavy working conditions with commercial and military ships. MJP UltraJet systems provide the most when a boost is required to speed up the boat with full load of fuel and passengers. Full control is easy to maintain, at each thrust.

    Reference list

The MJP reference list includes Coast Guard ships in Sweden, Finland, Turkey, Spain, South Korea and China. MJP sells water jets to exclusive Italian builders of luxury mega yachts. The "Cinderella" passenger ship, still sailing the islands along Stockholm, was the first installation of a MJP water jet propulsion. It is one of the fastest passenger catamarans, which can reach speeds of up to 57 knots.

Also, you can see MJP water jet propulsion in "action" at one of the gliders in the James Bond action movie 'Golden Eye'.
